GTC Supports Ben Burch at the Badwater 135 with Starlink Connectivity

Posted on July 14, 2026 by Guy Arnold

This July, British ultrarunner Ben Burch will take on one of the toughest endurance races in the world: the Badwater 135.

To help Ben and his support crew stay connected throughout the event, we are providing a Starlink rental kit complete with data, giving the team access to high-speed satellite internet while operating in the remote landscapes of California's Death Valley.

We're proud to play a small part in Ben's incredible journey and can't wait to follow his progress.

What is the Badwater 135?

The Badwater 135 is widely regarded as one of the world's most demanding ultramarathons.

Starting at Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America, runners cover 135 miles (217 km) through California's Death Valley before finishing at Whitney Portal after climbing more than 14,000 feet.

Temperatures regularly exceed 50°C, making reliable planning, logistics and support just as important as physical endurance.

For every runner, there's a dedicated crew working behind the scenes to keep them moving safely throughout the race.

Why Starlink?

Death Valley is famous for its spectacular scenery, but also its lack of reliable mobile coverage. Ben's crew will be coordinating logistics, communicating with family and supporters back home, checking weather conditions and managing the many moving parts involved in supporting a runner over 135 miles.

That's where Starlink comes in.

By lending the team a portable Starlink system, they'll have access to fast satellite internet whenever they stop and deploy the equipment, allowing multiple devices to connect without relying solely on mobile networks.

Why we're getting involved

At GTC, we regularly supply satellite communications equipment for expeditions, endurance events and remote operations around the world.

When we heard about Ben's challenge, it felt like the perfect opportunity to support someone pushing themselves to the absolute limit.

The Starlink kit is just one small piece of the puzzle, but if it helps Ben's crew stay organised and connected throughout race week, we'll be delighted.
