The Iridium 9555 has had a small but very welcome upgrade.

The latest version of Iridium's long-standing satellite phone now features USB-C charging, replacing the Mini-USB connection found on previous models.

Everything else that has made the Iridium 9555 such a dependable choice for satellite communications remains the same. Same familiar handset. Same straightforward operation. Same global Iridium satellite connectivity. Now with a much more convenient charging connection.

Why USB-C?

For anyone travelling with phones, tablets, laptops and other modern electronics, USB-C has quickly become the charging standard.

The move also brings the Iridium 9555 in line with European common-charger requirements, which introduced USB-C as the standard charging port for handheld mobile phones and a range of other portable electronics.

In practical terms, it means one less old-style cable to remember when you're heading off-grid.

Whether you're packing the 9555 for an expedition, keeping one aboard a vessel, carrying it for remote work or adding it to an emergency communications kit, USB-C simply makes keeping your handset charged that little bit easier.

There's a New Iridium 9555 Accessories Kit Too

Alongside the updated handset, GTC now offers the Iridium 9555 Accessories Kit, bringing together the key extras needed to keep your satellite phone powered, protected and ready to use.

The kit includes USB-C charging equipment alongside a headset, external antenna, antenna adapter and carry case – making it a useful all-in-one package for travel, vehicles, remote operations or replacing an older collection of 9555 accessories.

A Classic Satellite Phone, Brought Up to Date

There's a reason the Iridium 9555 has remained part of the satellite communications landscape for so long.

This isn't a completely redesigned handset. And it doesn't need to be.

Instead, Iridium has made a simple, practical update to an established satellite phone, giving the 9555 a modern USB-C connection while keeping the rest of the experience familiar.

Same 9555. New USB-C port. Less cable clutter.
