Global SOS Emergency Beacon with No Subscription Fees (Used)
The McMurdo FastFind 220 is a GPS-enabled Personal Locator Beacon designed to summon emergency assistance anywhere in the world. This used unit offers the same life-saving functionality as new, providing a reliable last-resort distress solution at a lower cost.
When activated, the beacon transmits a distress alert along with your precise GPS location through the international Cospas-Sarsat search and rescue satellite system, alerting rescue authorities within minutes.
Unlike satellite messengers or tracking devices that rely on paid services, the FastFind 220 operates without any monthly subscription or airtime fees. Once registered, the beacon communicates directly with government search and rescue networks, ensuring help can be dispatched even in the most remote environments.
Each used unit has been tested to confirm correct operation, though cosmetic wear may be present. Battery life will vary depending on the unit, and replacement may be required sooner than with a new device.
For adventurers, sailors, remote workers, and anyone travelling beyond mobile coverage, the FastFind 220 remains a dependable emergency communication device.
How the FastFind 220 Works
In an emergency, activating the beacon sends a distress signal on the 406 MHz international search and rescue frequency. This signal is detected by satellites in the Cospas-Sarsat system and relayed to a Rescue Coordination Centre responsible for your region.
At the same time, the built-in GPS receiver calculates your position and transmits your coordinates to rescuers. Once search teams reach the general area, they can use the beacon’s 121.5 MHz homing signal to pinpoint your exact location.
GPS and Galileo for Faster Location Detection
The FastFind 220 supports multi-constellation GNSS, combining both GPS and Galileo satellite positioning. This improves the speed and accuracy of location detection, helping the beacon acquire a position fix more quickly and transmit coordinates to rescue authorities.
Subscription-Free Safety
Like all Personal Locator Beacons, the FastFind 220 operates entirely without subscription costs. There are no ongoing fees, call charges, or service contracts required. Once registered, the device is ready to use whenever needed.
Programming and Registration
All Personal Locator Beacons must be registered before use so that rescue authorities can identify the user in an emergency.
Used units are supplied programmed with the appropriate country code where possible, but registration details must always be updated by the new owner before use. In the UK, this is typically done through the UK Coastguard Agency.
Built for Reliability in Remote Environments
The FastFind 220 is engineered for harsh conditions and remains easy to carry in a pocket, backpack, or life jacket.
Key features include waterproof construction, a high-visibility LED strobe, deployable antenna, and a buoyancy pouch for marine use. As a used device, minor cosmetic marks may be present, but functionality is fully checked prior to dispatch.
Battery and Service Considerations
Battery condition will vary depending on the unit’s history. While the FastFind 220 is designed with a long-life lithium battery, users should be aware that a replacement may be required sooner than with a brand-new beacon.
A self-test feature allows you to check the device before use to ensure it is functioning correctly.
Ideal for Outdoor Adventures and Remote Work
This used FastFind 220 is well suited to anyone needing a cost-effective emergency beacon for occasional or backup use, including sailors, hikers, field teams, and remote workers operating beyond mobile coverage.
