The FastFind ReturnLink from McMurdo gives you peace of mind when the unthinkable happens. It’s the first SOS beacon that can tell you your distress call has been received, confirmed by a reassuring blue light on the device itself.
Continuing the success of McMurdo’s proven FastFind range, ReturnLink is a rugged, handheld, waterproof (non-buoyant) PLB that fits in the palm of your hand. Tried and tested across the world’s most remote and extreme environments, this beacon activates easily. Simply deploy the antenna, pull the anti-tamper seal, and press ON.
How FastFind ReturnLink Works
- 1 Activate the beacon by deploying the antenna, removing the anti-tamper seal, and pressing ON.
- 2 The built-in GPS and Galileo receivers fix your position to within a few meters.
- 3 Your 406 MHz distress signal is transmitted to orbiting satellites and global emergency services.
- 4 When your alert is confirmed by Search & Rescue, the ReturnLink blue light flashes to show your message has been received (typically within 15 minutes).
Key Features
ReturnLink Service (RLS)
Receive confirmation that your distress call has been acknowledged by rescue authorities.
GPS & Galileo GNSS
Dual satellite receivers deliver fast, precise global positioning for reliable rescue coordination.
Buoyancy
Includes buoyancy pouch to keep your PLB afloat, essential for maritime environments.
Simple Activation
Manual deployment: antenna up, seal pulled, and one button pressed, no complicated setup.
Strobe & SOS Light
High-intensity LED with Morse SOS function improves visibility during night or low-light conditions.
Subscription-Free
No ongoing fees, distress alerts go directly to Search & Rescue, not via commercial call centres.
Signal Transmission
- 406 MHz: Connects directly to global emergency satellite network.
- GPS & Galileo: Provides real-time location updates to rescuers.
- 121.5 MHz Homing: Enables search teams to pinpoint your location locally once deployed.
The beacon typically begins transmitting within 5 minutes (up to 45 minutes in limited satellite coverage). Once the 121.5 MHz homing signal activates, Search & Rescue teams are already en route.
RLS Country Approvals
At launch, RLS service is approved in select countries including Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. More countries will be added as approvals expand. Devices still function as standard PLBs in regions awaiting certification.
Programming & Registration
All PLBs sold by GTC are pre-programmed with the UK country code, registering alerts with the UK Coastguard Agency in Falmouth. For use outside the UK, contact GTC to configure your PLB for another country.
Registration is required by law in most countries. Once received, register your PLB via the Cospas Sarsat International Beacon Registration Database or directly with the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency.
Usage & Safety Notices
This PLB is designed for use only in situations of grave and imminent danger to life. False alerts risk lives and waste Search & Rescue resources. PLBs will not function underwater — use an approved canister if diving beyond specified depths.
