54Knots & Thunder child II
54Knots is the team at the helm of their boat, Thunder Child II. Named after the boat's top speed, 54Knots hold multiple Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) world records between them, and use these record attempts for charity fundraising initiatives. Thunder Child II has unique, wave-piercing capabilities as well as high speed performance, allowing it to be able to deliver long-range, endurance distances at sea.
reliable iridium equipment
We supplied 54Knots with several Certus 700 terminals due to their need for high-speed, reliable marine communications. Cobham Sailor 4300 terminals provide data speeds of up to 704kbps, and streaming data speeds of up to 256 kbps, making them ideal for data-heavy applications including videoconferencing, multi-user Internet/VPN, IoT and telemedicine, alongside regular usage including email, electronic reporting, and crew communication.
We also lent the team a ruggedised and waterproof solar-powered asset tracker, the Iridium Edge Solar, so that their live and historic location can be monitored from our bespoke tracking portal, GTCTrack
