Satellite communications for government & response

Stay connected when conventional infrastructure isn't available.

Field operations can take teams into locations where mobile networks, terrestrial radio systems or fixed communications infrastructure are unavailable, unreliable or disrupted.

Satellite communications provide another layer of operational connectivity. Depending on the requirement, teams can deploy push-to-talk voice, portable broadband, secure two-way messaging, GPS tracking and emergency alerting without relying solely on local infrastructure.

01

Coordinate teams in the field

Satellite push-to-talk provides rapid group voice communication across remote and widely distributed teams.

02

Deploy broadband where it's needed

Portable satellite terminals can provide voice and internet access when fixed infrastructure is unavailable.

03

Maintain visibility of personnel

Messaging and tracking devices can provide location reporting, field updates and emergency alerting.

Secure messaging & tracking

SHOUT nano 100

A compact Iridium SATCOM device providing two-way messaging, automated GPS position reporting and emergency alerting for personnel operating in remote environments.

Best for: field personnel requiring a compact body-worn communication and tracking device with encrypted data options and low power consumption.

Expert advice

Building communications for a critical operation?

A rapid-response team requiring instant group voice has very different needs from a temporary command post requiring broadband or personnel requiring secure tracking and messaging. Tell us about the operation, deployment area and communication requirements, and our team can help identify suitable equipment.

Government & response FAQs

Communications for critical field operations.

Operational satellite communications can range from instant team voice to deployable broadband and compact personnel tracking. The right combination depends on the deployment, team structure and information that needs to move between locations.

Why use satellite communications for government and response operations?

Satellite systems provide another communication route when mobile, fixed-line or terrestrial radio infrastructure is unavailable, damaged or outside the deployment area. Different satellite systems can support voice, data, messaging and tracking.

What is satellite push-to-talk?

Satellite push-to-talk allows a user to press one button and communicate with other users assigned to the same talkgroup. This can provide rapid one-to-many voice communication across teams operating over large geographic areas.

Can satellite communications provide secure voice or messaging?

Security capabilities depend on the hardware and service being used. For example, the IC-SAT100 supports AES-256 encrypted PTT communications, while the SHOUT nano 100 supports encrypted data options including AES-256 and PECOS.

Can we deploy internet connectivity to a temporary field location?

Yes. Portable satellite broadband terminals such as the EXPLORER 710 can provide voice and IP data without requiring fixed local communications infrastructure. The appropriate system will depend on bandwidth, coverage and deployment requirements.

Can personnel be tracked while operating remotely?

Compatible devices can transmit GPS position reports over satellite networks. Devices such as the SHOUT nano 100 can combine automated position reporting with two-way messaging and emergency alerting.

Can satellite communications work if local infrastructure fails?

Satellite systems do not depend on the same local cellular towers, fibre connections or terrestrial repeaters as conventional communications. Equipment still requires an appropriate satellite service, power and suitable access to the satellite network.

Can GTC support larger organisational deployments?

Requirements for larger deployments can include hardware selection, airtime, talkgroups, tracking, device management and different communication methods for different teams. Speak to GTC about the deployment size and operational requirements to determine an appropriate configuration.
