Ithaca is one Greece's paradise islands, situated off the larger island of Kefalonia, off the mainland's western coast. Attracting thousands of visitors a year, most people would either spend their time there soaking up the sun on a deckchair or bobbing offshore in a sailboat. Not so for GTC customer, Oly Rush, who took to the island's azure waters and didn't emerge from them for 20 hours.
This is because he swam the entire distance around the whole of Ithaca, non-stop, covering a total distance of 60km.
Oly's Tracker Path Around Ithaca
Oly is an eco-activist with a passion for clean, plastic-free oceans. Raising money for his Project Planet Earth initiative, Oly wanted to achieve something challenging, and required a way of tracking his every move to prove he had done so as evidence for a Guinness World Record.
When Oly approached us in search of a suitable satellite tracker and tracking solution, the SPOT GEN4 and Iridium Edge Solar were easy recommendations due to their robust qualities, waterproof capabilities, portability, and reliability. Each device can be set to track at regular intervals, so Oly simply fixed the Iridium Edge Solar to the boat that was following his swim, and strapped the SPOT GEN4 to himself so both he and the boat were accurately monitored.
With his location being regularly transmitted to our online mapping portal, GTC Track, friends, family, and followers were able to see his progress as he inched his way around the island of Ithaca.
