polar ice.epsAdventurer David Hempleman-Adams has spent the last forty years exploring the most challenging but stunning terrains on our planet and embarking on the sorts of adventures that most of us would only dream of attempting. He is internationally renowned after becoming the first person in history to complete the ‘Explorers Grand Slam’ which means that he has not only reached the North and South Poles but also the summit of the highest mountains on all seven continents - but he still has at least one more challenge to complete! Next year David will set off on the ‘voyage of a lifetime’: The Polar Ocean Challenge. He intends to be the first British man to circumnavigate the North Pole and is prepared to face daily peril from pack ice for the chance to achieve an ambition he has held for over 20 years whilst promoting the devastating effects of global warming. David-Hempleman-AdamsThe voyage would have been impossible in the past due to the lack of ice free months in the Arctic Ocean and so the fact that it is now possible illustrates the extent that climate change is affecting the landscape of our planet. David hopes to collect scientific readings throughout the voyage that will improve our understanding of the true impact of global warming and he will also promote the cause through education by visiting schools on his journey. We are providing David with a vsatellite tracker that uses the global Iridium network and will enable him to share his GPS coordinates, course, speed and elevation in real-time with friends and family. The inReach SE will also allow David to send and receive messages and perhaps most importantly considering the dangerous areas he will be traversing he will have constant access to an SOS button. GTC wish David the best of luck! If you are interested in joining him on his voyage of a lifetime please click here for more information on how to get involved.
