Black Friday has become synonymous with the early run-up to Christmas, falling every year in late November.
With beginnings rooted in the United States and taking place the day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday became especially popular in the United Kingdom back in 2010 when retailers dramatically cut the price of their stock and people flocked through the doors of high street electrical stores.
What is a Black Friday Sale?
A Black Friday sale as we know it today can include anything from electrical goods to furniture, cutlery, and clothing. It is a flash discount on a retailer’s selected range of stock, designed to help customers get their Christmas shopping ticked off the list at a fraction of the cost.
A Black Friday sale takes place in physical stores as well as online and, in 2021, saw consumers in America spend around $8.9 billion online. This, however, is less than the average spend if compared to 2020 where shoppers put a collective and record-breaking $9 billion over the counter.
Is it really a beneficial sale period?
There is no one-word answer to this question; it really depends on the retailer and the product offering. However, for the most part, consumers are in line for a bargain if they are quick to the checkout. Black Friday offers really can bring rock-bottom prices to highly sought after products, making the late November rush very much worth the wait.
Why is Black Friday a good time to purchase products?
With Christmas just five weeks off Black Friday’s arrival on the calendar, a lot of customers get all of their Christmas shopping done at this time in order to save money on something they normally would have to pay more for. It comes at a time of year when a lot of retailers are looking to bring in new stock so have a lot left over from last season which needs clearing down.
