As a sector operating in rural areas with poor or non-existent cellular and internet connection, agricultural operations need to be supported by an alternative means of communication to ensure farms are managed as efficiently as possible. According to the World Government Summit, by 2050 we will need to produce 70% more food* and this can only be achieved by investment in technologies to enhance productivity. The report predicts that by the end of 2020 over 75 million agricultural IoT devices such as robots, sensors, aerial images, and GPS technology will be in use, all of which can report their data via satellite networks to enhance profitability, efficiency and safety. Satellite technologies have an important part to play in increasing the productivity of this industry we are so dependent on.
