Iridium CloudConnect is the world's first global cloud-based satellite solution and the only one of its kind. Harnessing the power of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Iridium CloudConnect empowers developers to manage connected devices on a single communications platform.

Iridium CloudConnect allows for the transfer of data using AWS without having to connect to the Iridium Short Burst Data® (SBD®) gateway.

How CloudConnect Works

Data Transfer:

Information flows seamlessly via enclosed carrier networks and exclusive, secure private channels linking Iridium to AWS.

Authentication:

Integration with Iridium CloudConnect involves cross-account authentication and a straightforward script for infrastructure setup.

Data Delivery:

Clients obtain their SBD device data through a Simple Queue Service (SQS) queue, formatted in JavaScript Object Notation (JSON).

Private Queues:

Queues are housed within the customer’s AWS Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) setting for enhanced security and control.

Advantages of Iridium CloudConnect

Iridium CloudConnect not only helps to reduce engineering and fixed operating costs, but it also saves valuable time taken to develop new products and services that use the system via the suite of data exchange methods and capabilities of AWS.

Iridium CloudConnect offers a comprehensive solution that adheres to evolving industry IoT messaging standards and protocols, leveraging the extensive coverage of Iridium's global network and AWS's redundant infrastructure. It ensures security and privacy through dedicated connections, bypassing the public internet. Messages are efficiently processed, with SBD messages converted to JSON and placed in a Simple Queue Service (SQS) queue within the partner's AWS cloud environment. Future upgrades and messaging options will seamlessly integrate without requiring changes to the interface, while preserving existing backend delivery options of Iridium Short Burst Data functionality.
