How does the ACR OLAS Tag work?
The system works on the basis that the device is tethered virtually to a smartphone, or multiple mobile phones or tablets, and if it is detected that the tether is broken for more than 8 seconds, then a loud alert is played out on the paired device. This would happen if you are on a moving marine vessel and fall overboard but your boat keeps moving away from you. If nobody notices you have fallen overboard, the device has your back and alerts your fellow crew members to the situation.
Once the virtual tether is broken, your phone is instantly notified and the place where you entered the water is recorded by using precise coordinates of longitude and latitude, making the recovery process much easier. The crew are alerted to the exact location you went overboard by providing clear directions using a compass-like display that points to your direction, and also provides the correct bearing.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re boating on your own or are on a small or large vessel, the ACR OLAS tag has been designed to keep you safe in all circumstances. If alone, then an overboard alert will be sent to your contact of choice and gives them the location data so that emergency service can find you quickly.
All of the information will be readily available so even if your contact cannot do anything to help, they are still armed with all of the vital details to point them to your exact location.
